HCE Performance Introduces Billet Engine Cover Hinges for the Honda NSX (NA1/NA2)

Designed and Manufactured In-House to Solve Fitment, Rattle, and Installation Issues for OEM and NSX-R Style Engine Covers

San Francisco, California HCE Performance today announced the release of its new CNC-machined billet engine cover hinges for the Honda/Acura Honda NSX platform. Developed specifically for both coupe and targa applications, the new hinges address long-standing fitment and durability issues commonly encountered when upgrading to lightweight NSX-R style engine covers.

The new hinge lineup includes three dedicated variants for the NSX NA1 and NA2 models:

  • Coupes w/ OEM Cover
  • Coupes w/ NSX-R Style Cover
  • Targas w/ NSX-R Style Cover

For targa owners, swapping to a lightweight aftermarket NSX-R style engine cover—whether carbon fiber or aluminum—typically requires crude spacer solutions using stacked washers or improvised hardware to achieve proper alignment. These setups often introduce additional installation hassle, inconsistent fitment, and an unfinished appearance in the engine bay.

HCE Performance’s billet hinges eliminate the need for spacers entirely by integrating the proper height directly into the hinge design for targa applications. The result is a cleaner, more professional installation with proper geometry and improved overall fitment for the majority of aftermarket NSX-R style engine covers.

For coupe owners, the factory hinges can develop looseness in the hinge pin assembly over time, often resulting in an irritating vibration or rattle that appears at certain engine RPMs. HCE’s redesigned billet hinges solve this issue while also allowing coupe owners to run either the OEM engine cover or lightweight NSX-R style covers without modification.

Each hinge is CNC machined in-house from billet aluminum and fitted with pressed-in brass bearings to provide smooth operation, improved durability, and long-term reliability.  Currently available in Black and Raw Tumbled Aluminum.

Unlike improvised spacer setups or modified factory hinges, the HCE billet hinge system was engineered to provide a refined OEM+ solution that complements the NSX engine bay while simplifying installation. The result is improved functionality, cleaner aesthetics, and a more robust mounting solution for both restored and modified cars.

Compatibility Notes: At this time, HCE Performance has not yet validated the hinges for use with the OEM targa engine cover due to the additional weight of the factory assembly. Validation testing is planned for the future.
